Arm Lift
There are generally three types of candidates for whom brachioplasty could be a beneficial procedure; the first group are young women with arms that are out of proportion, and don't fit short-sleeved shirts and blouses. They usually have firm skin, and just want to bring their arms into proportion with the rest of
their body. This can be easily corrected with liposculpture.
The second group consists of middle-aged men and women looking to turn back the signs of aging a little. They typically have a moderate amount of loose skin and tissue thickening. The incision can usually be hidden in the crease of the armpit depending on the extent of the loose skin. Sometimes the incision may need to be made a short way down the arm.
The third groups of people that can significantly benefit from brachioplasty are men and women, of any age, who have lost a considerable amount of weight.
Weight gain will stretch the skin, and weight loss will leave skin loose and redundant. With this procedure, the incision is made right down the arm, from the arm pit to the elbow. There will be a faintly visible scar, but
this will fade in time.
Arm lift procedures vary somewhat based on how much skin removal and reconstruction is required to achieve the desired result. Differences will mostly revolve around the size and location of the incision.
• Upper Arm Lift
This procedure involves an incision that either runs the full length of the inside of the upper arm, or at the back of the arm from the armpit to the elbow. This procedure removes excess sagging skin of the upper arm and improves the contour of the arm. In some cases, an upper arm lift may be combined with liposuction for best results. The fat is suctioned away from the area first, and then the excess skin is removed and the incision is closed.
• Mini Arm Lift
This procedure is very similar to the upper arm lift, but less skin must be reshaped and the size of the incision is smaller and located in the armpit area. This procedure is less common than the upper arm lift, since the majority of patients require more contouring and reshaping for the best results.
Surgical Procedure
Your surgeon will first mark the area of excess skin. Then after the Anesthesia is administered, incisions are made on the inner and under arm, usually in a zig-zag pattern. Skin is usually cut off in an elliptical or triangular shape. Fatty tissue is often suctioned at the same time.
After the loose skin and fat have been removed, the remaining skin is stretched and sutured into place. Occasionally a drain is used to lead excess fluids from the site of incision, allowing the skin better to adhere to the tissue beneath. The incisions are then bandaged.

Risk
Brachioplasty, like any type of surgical procedure, does not come without risks. These risks might include bleeding and infection at the incision site, blood clots, skin discoloration and swelling, and changes in skin sensation. If a general anaesthesia is used, there are also risks associated with the medication given.
This procedure does not come without a significant amount of scarring, which surgeons will try to place in an inconspicuous area of the arm. To reduce risk during a brachioplasty, patients should follow the instructions of that surgeon very carefully and wear their compression Garments for required duration
Recovery
Following your surgery, dressings or bandages may be applied to your incisions, and your arms may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or a compression garment to minimize swelling. A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect.
The results of arm lift surgery will be long-lasting, provided that you maintain a stable weight and general fitness. As your body ages, it is natural to lose some firmness, but most of your improvement should be relatively permanent.
