Lip Enhancement
Lip augmentation is done under local anesthesia no hospital stay. However in some cases, it is done under general anesthesia when it is performed simultaneously with other major cosmetic surgeries.
Fuller, plumper lips can be achieved by a variety of lip augmentation techniques. Your doctor will help you to select the lip augmentation method that is best for you as the technique chosen will depend on individual patient factors, your goals for the procedure as well as the surgeon’s recommendation.
The Procedure
The simplest technique for lip augmentation is injection with a synthetic substance. For fat injection, a tiny amount of fat is taken from another area of your body, using a small needle attached to a syringe. There are other natural and synthetic materials that can be injected into the lips to create volume. These substances come from a variety of sources, which has its own particular benefits and disadvantages.
Results
Significant complications from lip augmentation are rare. With any surgical procedure, there is always a possibility of bleeding, infection, reaction to the anesthesia, slow healing or an unexpected result. Other possible complications include asymmetrical lips, cold sores, numbing, scarring, swelling, and permanent stiffness in the lip. Implant material may move to a new location within the lips and it may also protrude unnaturally. Allergic reactions such as itching, redness, swelling may occur. Fat injections can cause lumping or scarring. Any implant that is a foreign substance (such as SoftForm) may become infected or be rejected by the body.
