Common gel myths: Cohesion confusion. There is still a misconception among some patients and surgeons concerning silicone gel. All of Mentor’s gels are cohesive polymers, not liquids. Although soft and fluid feeling, the gel acts as a unit. Our gels hold together uniformly, while retaining the natural “give” that resembles breast tissue. The myth of bleed. There has been ongoing discussion concerning small molecules of silicone gel fluid, which may pass through an implant shell and into the body. Minute amounts of “bleed” occur in all silicone breast implants.
